  • Sponser for a tourist visa

    hello everyone,

I am planing to file for a non immigrant tourist visa. My family is in India and I have my uncle in the US. My father is going to pay for my expenses to go there and i shall be staying with my uncle and aunt there for a week. So who all and where should I mention them as sponsors. Do I have to mention my father living in India as my sponsor AND ALSO my uncle or ONLY my uncle or ONLY my father as the sponsor and a invitation from my uncle ? Who will fill out the I-134 forms ? I am thoroughly confused so please help soon !!!
    Thanking you all in advance.........

I-134 is required only if someone in US is funding your trip.

If funding is from India, I-134 is not required.
Only an invite from US host, his passport, visa copies are required.

Funding is of secondary importance. Success will depend on your strong ties
that will bring you back. ( college enrolment, job, income, spouse, kids)

      thank you so much peace999........
Just trying to understand here that if my father is paying for the trip i should choose others in the sponsor column right ? Also when and where am I supposed to send all the additional supporting documents ? I would be taking an employment letter from the place I work at. I'll be showing my bank statements aswell.....would that be considered as strong ties to come back ?

If you are employed, showing your dad as funding the trip is not good.

That will show that your financial health is not good.

        Please answer;

        1. Are you single or married? Any kids?
        2. Have you ever travelled outside India before?
        3. What is your yrly salary roughly? <5L, 5-10L, 10L + ?
        4. WHy did you suddenly decide to go to US to visit your aunt and uncle?

          Once again thank you peace999
I am single. I have traveled to UK before with family on vacation but this was long time back and to dubai recently. I am young dentist working at charitable trusts with an approx. annual salary of 5-8L. I wish to take the nbde which is a test required for PG admissions in the US and in conducted ONLY in the US. I'll just be staying with my uncle for the purpose of exam. I am showing my financial statements too but since my father will be bearing the cost of the trip, I decided to show him as the sponsor. Do I show sponsor as self ?

            Do not show dad's funding.
Show 8L as your own income and show self funding and you should be fine.

You have to work on your purpose though.

Do you think they will give you the visa for the test? Have you talked to fellow dentists going for the tests?

The exam is a pre-requisite for post graduate admissions at US dental schools and as I mentioned can only be given there. A few of my colleagues already had visitor visas before they gave the exam. I have read on forums that on few occasions they give the visa and on few they don't. It's a 50-50 chance. That is the sole purpose of my visit there for now. What do you suggest ?
              Appreciate your advice

Because of your young, single status and being a dentist not fully settled in India,
likelihood of your NOT returning are high for the officer.

I suggest you go with the truth. Apply with the purpose of taking the test, ask for a short stay like a week.
Do not show that you are staying with your uncle. Make a tentative hotel booking for the test days close to the test site
and mention the name of the hotel on DS 160 as the place of stay and contact.

They will ask you your future plans. Tell them you want to return after completing graduate training in US
and show something concrete in INdia like a future job offer or a practice site.

And pray to GOD, you may succeed.

It does not matter , just add the name of the clinic where you work longer hrs.
Also where there is someone who can vouch for you; sometimes the embassy calls to verify.

You can mention two clinics if given a chance during the interview.
