  • Tourist visa for my wife...

    Hi!

i have this question, i have the Visa R/type B1/B2 multiple entry for 10 years. I recalled that when i asked the consular officer on the us embassy in my country, he told me on 1999 (when i received the visa) that if i get married my wife doesnt need to go through any screening, just to send my passport with my visa to the embassy and she will get it as my wife. is this still true? i know it is been a while, 6 years since i received the visa, so i guess there are many new changes on the usa visa regulations.

i also wonder i just read something about R multiple entry 10 year visas since last year are now void. is that so? i hope my visa R/b1-b2 is not that kind of visa.

im from panama studying in japan for more than 4 years, she is from china, she is also a graduate student in japan. i dont know if this information is relevant but well i guess i better say it.

    best regards!

    S. Reyes

here is the post i m talking about , is my visa r/b1-b2 this one? i guess not...i didnt get any indefinite visa..sorry i dont know what R/b1-b2 means.

What are indefinite validity visas (Burroughs visas) and are they still valid?
Indefinite validity visas (Burroughs Visas) are tourist/business visas manually stamped into a traveler’s passport which were valid for ten years. Effective April 1, 2004, all indefinite validity Burroughs visas became void. Therefore, if you have an indefinite validity visa you must apply for a new visa for travel to the U.S.

    1. Your wife needs to apply for her own visa. Read details at https://www.immihelp.com/usa-visas/visitor
    2. 10 years visa are valid until cancelled.

      thanks!

      hi!

thanks for ur informartion. i really appreciate your great advices!

      1. although, what do u think? she has to stand for her own on the interview, i mean to push on its personal life (parents, education in china and japan, etc)
2.or she should focus on my visa and the fact she s married? i think what sucks is that we r both students and she is from china. panamanian get the visa to the usa very easy, just the fact u study at the university is enough but i think in the case of chinese isnt easy at all.
      3. should she apply in my country or japan? the whole idea after all is just to visit my country and to travel through an usa airport since we r in tokyo.
      4. the fact that i have been many times in the USA does it help in her application for a visa? she should take my passport?

      thanks again!! u r great!!

She is married to you and you have been to USA does not matter for her visa.

She should apply on her own. Read https://www.immihelp.com/usa-visas/visitor

If she is working in Japan, apply from there. Else from China.
