Hi All ,
Both parents and in laws got the Visa *Yay!!. But I am here to hopefully make it easier for others , since this was the first time anyone I knew went for Visa interview since the new process with OFC. .Here we go :
***DS-160 Confirmation page : If you save the confirmation page and print , there is only one bar code at the top right hand side. This IS NOT ACCEPTED. Instead use the print confirmation/email confirmation link. This gives you a page with 2 bar codes ( I think they are the same) One at the top right hand side and one at the bottom left. This is the one we want.
Parents took the one with only one bar code to the OFC, they were told thats not acceptable. Luckily there is an internet center nearby around 1 km ( Chennai OFC). But not so luckily - the auto guys tried to make 500 bucks out of the trip (Dad managed to get someone for a 100 rupees to and fro) and the print out cost them 100 each. no kidding. The stress/hassle was the worst part though.
Also , when we filled the DS-160 , it lets you select a pick up location for your passport. When my inlaws went the following day , they were given a form - to fill address where they want the passport delivered. They had to pay 300 per passport at the consulate ( visa interview place) along with the filled form. We dint know this either. But parents weren't asked to do this. They might just have to go pick it from address mentioned.
