  • Parents Visitor Visa - rejected for the first time - For Graduation

    Hi guys,

I wanted to invite my parents for my Graduation ceremony.

    - Have an elder bro with his family back in India.

    - I had send a Affidavit of Support - I-134 form since my Dad is retired.

    - But no docs were asked. VO just asked about my dad's background, about my bro, about me.

What do u guys suggest. Should I wait to re-apply. I will go on H1B work visa from this October. Will that help ??

    - Thanks.

Were on you OPT when you sent an I-134?

Wait till you have worked for a few months on your H-1b.

      - Yea I am on OPT and my H1 just got approved which will be effective from Oct.

      - So do you think I stand a chance if I do that after few months. Like I plan for a second attempt next Jan.

      - Is it like I have to show some good amount in my bank account

      - Also Is going for a Tour Travel option is a better option where my parents show its self sponsored ?

self funded is always better but you must have very good income for that.
Coming to meet you is the correct purpose. Tour is not right.

What is your dad's income and mom's income?

What is your bro's income roughly? Does he have a stable job or business?

Sending I-134 on OPT is probably the reason. OPT is optional training and not a stable job
        with strong income.
That said, it all depends on the officer and a lot of luck.

If your bro and his wife had a combined income of 1 L /mo. he could fund your parents' trip.

If not, you send the I-134 in Jan , and hope it works.

But how much amount one should probably show on I-134 ??

Can I show any of my investments or savings back in India - (converting it into dollar amount)

NO. Only money in US. IT returns but you would not have filed one yet.
Send bank statements showing your salary, and build up balance as much over $10k as possible over several months.

Ok I am planning to go for a second attempt by next Jan.

But still in two minds on should I invite them or should I ask them to come through a tour option.

It is logical; if they go through a tour, the officer will ask them why when your son is in US.
Also, how can they afford a tour when their savings are not great.

                      - I was thinking on the lines that they would be having an itenary for which they have already paid and that would justify that they have funds to sponser themselves.

                      - Also I wanted to check with you on whether having other country's visa on passport makes it easy to get a US Visa.

                      Thanks

Having travelled to other countries is a positive.

they will not look at the itinerary but will surely ask about income/savings in case one is self funding.
