Hi,

I am gonna be inviting my parents for a short stay here. Is it necessary for them to tell the officer at the Consulate that they have another child in the U.S besides the sponsor ? What happens if they do not mention another child staying in the US ?

I think honesty is the best policy with the consulars. Lying on DS 156
can land you in trouble later for obtaining visa by misrepresentation
which can render you ineligible for any kind of visa.
