  • Visitor visa for younger unmarried sister still in college

    Hi,

I am planning to sponsor my younger sister's visitir visa. She is a student and is in her third year of B.tech. I sponsored the visitor visa for my parents recently and they got their visa approved recently. The reason why my sister did not attend the visa interview with my parents was that she was preparing for her exams that are still going on so we plan to schedule her visa interview after her exams. I have the following questions:

    1. Since she will be travelling along with my parents for 2-3 weeks but she did not attend the visa interview with them. Will that be a problem?
If she explains that she was preparing for her exams will they consider it a valid reason? (and that is the Truth we are not hiding anything)

Also, what do I fill in DS 160 under the section Travel companions?

    2. She will be visiting us for 2-3 weeks for her vacations and then will go back to India to continue her studies in college.
(How to explain this to VO that he understands this scenario)

    3. She will carry with her college ID card and previous semester's marksheets and a copy of the exams datesheet to prove that her
exams were going on. Will these be sufficient or do we need to provide some more documents?

    Please suggest!

Thanks, I appreciate your help in advance!

    Could you please post;

When did your parents get the visa?
What is your visa status in US?
Do you have any siblings in India besides your sis?

      - My parents got their visa approved on 14th of this month.
      - I am on H1B visa. I came to US on H4 and got then applied for H1B. I have been on H1B since 1 yr now. My husband
has been working in US since 4 yrs on H1B
      - No, I don't have any other siblings besides my sis.

and the purpose of their visit is purely tourism niether am I expecting nor is there any other reason for them to visit us.
Please suggest the best way to present our case.

      Thanks

        *Young and single ,
*a student and not fully settled in life in India,
*and her trip funded by you not her parents,
she does not have great chances anyway

And applying just a few days after her parents got their visas, may put THEIR visas in jeopardy. That is if they did not
mention her as a co-traveler on their DS 160s . And during the interview, if they gave the impression that only they will
be traveling. If exams was the reason, they could have waited to apply with her when her exams were over.

I strongly think they should make a trip on their own.
She can apply in winter or next year, to go with them again.

Thanks for your reply! Can she say that since she is visiting only for couple of weeks, she will be travelling alone to join us in US and she will be accompanying my parents while coming back to India?

Also, there were couple of reasons that they went alone for visa stamping. One was that I had to apply for vacation at my work place well in advance and my schedule allowed me to take off from 1st week of july only, same applies for my dad's work. So we just wanted to make sure that we should have ample time to plan their travel. My sister had her exams so couldn't accompany my parents for the interview. Please suggest the best way to present her.

If she applied next year, she would be out of college by then, hunting for job so the chaces of her visa getting approved would be impossible then. Please suggest!

          Thanks for your help!

In all likelihood , your parents were successful because they were leaving a family tie behind in
the form of your sis .
And since THEY DID NOT DECLARE HER AS A CO-TRAVELER, if she applies too just after a few days of your parents getting the visa, the officer will
think it as " tricking".All your explanations of exams and timing won't be heard.

If she really wants to apply , she should apply say a few weeks after they leave.
She can say that she had her exams, and now feels like joining her family for the vacation.

Thanks for your reply! I wil keep those points in my mind before sponsoring her visa.
If her chances are week this time, I plan to sponsor her during her winter vacations then. I appreciate your help!

Visitor visa for young unmarried sister, still in college.

                Hi,

I posted the below mentioned thread last year. I sponsored my parents's visitor visa last year, they got their visa approved and they visited us for one month.

This year, I am planning to sponsor my younger sister's visitor visa. She is a student and is still studying in her B.tech final year. She also has a job offer in hand and she will be joining in the month of July. I have the following questions regarding her visa:

                1. She will be visiting us for just 2-3 weeks for her vacations and then will go back to India to continue her studies in college and eventually join her first job in the month of July.
(How to explain this to VO that he understands this scenario)

                3. She will carry her college ID card, previous semester's marksheets and a copy of the appointment letter from the company where she will be joining after completing her studies at college along with her to the interview.

Are these documents sufficient enough or do we need to provide some more documents other than the regular visa sponsorship documents?

P.S. My father is retired and cannot sponsor her trip.

Based upon the above scenario, how can I improve her chances of getting the visa approved?

                Please suggest!

Thanks, I appreciate your help in advance!

I understand you want the officer to know that she will be joining a job soon. When they ask her
what she does, she can say she is a student and add that she already has a job offer.
Though they rarely ask to look at any documents, she should also carry a
a letter from the college that her enrolment is ongoing and the date she will graduate and if possible
a mention of vacation period. Marksheets are not required.

other than that you cannot do anything. Leave it upto the officer and her luck.

                        Hi,

Sorry to bother you again, I haven't yet applied for my sister's visitor visa as I am still in a dilema because of the risk of her visa rejection.
Although, I have all my documents ready and will be mailing the documents to her pretty soon.
I have a couple of last minutes questions:
                        - If she says she will be travelling with her parents for tourism (will this impact negatively since I sponsored my parent's visa last year?)
                        - She will be travelling for only 15 days, in case the VO asks she will tell them that her B.tech final year result is awaited and she has to sign up for her convocation ceremony so she has to come back. Also, she already has a job offer in hand so she would be asked by the company YYYY to join anytime after her final year results are declared. Does this sound fair enough?

Please let me know in case she needs to modify her answers above? (Both of the above are true.)

                        Thanks

If you have waited so long, I suggest you wait till she gets a job. Wait another year , she applies with her parents after she has worked in the job
for a year, chances will be better.

As long as your intentions are correct and your sister has significant ties back in the home country viz parents, a waiting job offer I think you should go ahead and apply. Your sister should be sincere and honest in her conversation with the visa officer. Waiting will not change anything. A lot depends on visa officers perception of the applicant.

When I first applied for my visit visa to the US many years ago, I did not have have a single stamp in my passport, was single, not a great bank balance and was staying in a rented apartment in Mumbai. I got a 10 year multiple entry visa and since then have traveled around the world and have never been rejected a visa anywhere, so all depends on how genuine your intentions are.
