  • Mom's passport expiring in 5 months - active 10 Years Visa

    HI,

I am in need to know what to do from here.
I am planning to book a ticket for my mom who has 10 years visa on a passport that is expiring in 5months from the travel date. But she has 10 years visa in the passport.
I was planning to renew it here in USA once she comes as she lives alone in India.
Now I found out that she will be stopped and not allowed to board the aircraft at the checkin once they verify the passport expiration date as India requires at least six months' validity from the date a traveler applies for an Indian visa.
I tried to book via tatkal service but they don't even exist for the PSK centers that I am trying, normal appt time is not available as well.

But my question is: Since it is only 5 months, will it be allowed? Did anyone travel with such a situation?
Also, what should I do as I am not even getting any appt time in Hyderabad to submit the paperwork.
Is it possible to go through any brokers? Does anyone have a similar experience or come across such a situation

Please reply back with any kind of info on this.
    Thank You

If she is planning to leave the US before her passport expires, she is good. 6 months validity is not required in that case.

She needs to have a passport that is valid for the whole duration she will be in the US as Indian consulate will not extend her passport in the U.S. because she would be on tourist visa.

Yes, She is planning to return in 3 months.....whereas the passport is valid for 5 months from the date of travel.

I dont think there is requirement of 6 Months passport validity to travel to US.

She will most likely get I-94 validity only till her Passport expiry date and secondly, Indian embassy in US doesn't renew passport for Indian citizens who are on a visitor visa she can get a new passport only in India.

This is my opinion not legal advice.

can indian citizen travel back to india with a valid nut expiring passport

I am in a similar situation. My dad who is 85,traveled to US in May. His indian passport expires in Dec 2014. We had to postpone his return date of August to October. Is he allowed to travel with a passport that will be valid for only 2 months back to India?
