  • Father's name incorrect in My Passport

    Hi,

Currently I'm in US & planning to apply US visa for my parents. My Father's name in my passport is incorrectly displayed as Dorai Swamy whereas my Father's name in his Passport is mentioned as Dora Swamy (an extra "I" in my passport). My educational documents had "Dorai Swamy" hence this mismatch. Im in USA & cannot change my father's name in my passport.

My query is would there be any issue during VISA interview? While sending the I-134 or invitation letter, should I mention my fathers name as per his passport or my passport? Please advise. Thank You.

Also, should my father need to carry an affidavit mentioning both the names while attending US Visa interview ?

It does not matter. There is no requirement for the two passports to be matched for names. No affidavit required.
Only the name on his passport is important so you must use that name in the form I-134.

      Thanks.

I have the same kind of Problem. I am planning to bring my parents to USA but my father's and mother's passport names are not matching to my passport. My Father name is wrongly printed in his passport as MOHANA BABU instead of MOHAN BABU. One extra 'A' came which is not there in my passport. Even the same incorrect name has been printed in my mother's passport as well in the Husband's Name row.

And my mother's name is also printed as PRAMEELA instead of PRAMEELA DEVI.

I am asking my parents to apply for new passports and I am so disppointed on seeing these two incorrect names in their passport which is making a lot of delay now in bringing them here to US.

Please confirm me if it is ok to start Visa process with these two incorrect names or should I really get new passports now for safer side. Can somebody give the 100 % confirmation answer to me so that I can act accordingly. The only thing I am worried is if not Visa office, if Port of Entry guy catches this mistake, it will be a problem for them. So, let me know.

      Thanks,
      Dinesh

port of entry , they do not ask for the host's passport copy just to match the applicant's names. it is not a requirement and never done.

          Hello Immihelp user,

I have my passport with me since 2004(expire in 2014) and in that my father's name has both first and last names.
But in 2011 my father applied for his passport and there he just mentioned his first name but no last name, because in his lifetime he never used his last name on any legal documents.
will it create any problem as I am inviting him to U.S.A ?
Please help me out in handling this situation as soon as you can.
          I really appreciate your response.
          Thanks in advance.

          regards,
          gaik

Hi Raghu , My case is very much similar to yours . Please help me in knowing what steps did you happen to take to procede with US Visa for your parents ? Did he make affidavits for both his names ? Which name did you go for I-134 Invitation letter ? Was there any objection by USCIS ?
              Please post your comments.

                Hi All ,

Currently my Father's name in his own passport and in my passport is differing by a letter "A" .
Please let me know does he has to make an Affadavit for both his names as his names are differing in passports .
Which name should I be referring for I-134 Invitation Letter ?

Will there be any objection by USCIS ? Will there be any legal complications if names are incorrect in my passport and his passsport ?

Please post your valuable comments. I need to initiate their Visas as early as possible.

                Thanks in advance.

Incorrect Father's Name on my Passport

                    Hi All,

I have to urgently apply for VISA B1/B2 but I found that my fathers name on my passport is spelled incorrectly.
It is spelled as "RPAMOD" while it should be "PRAMOD".There is just swapping of 1 letter.
What shall I do??Will this lead to rejection of my tourist VISA?
                    Please help.

                    Regards
                    pp
