  • Highly Confused!! Single entry B2 visa for a 3 month!!!

    Hello all,

I am United Nation Peace Keeper currently deployed at peace keeping mission in Liberia. Being a peace keeper it was quite simple (as previous cases showed so) for people to get multiple entry B2 visa for 5 years. So, as my plan to visit US later after about a year, I thought I would get a multiple entry B2 visa and make myself ready for it, as getting B2 visa back in my country is really tough. Along with me, other people also applied for US B2 Visa from here in Liberia, and all of them got 5 years multiple visa expect me and the other guy :-( (we got 3 month, single entry visa). All of those who got multiple entry visa for 5 years had no close relatives in US and had just friends and distant relatives. Talking about me, I had my elder sister in US who is a green card holder, the other guy had his parents in US who were DV lottery winner. The Consular didnt ask much question to all of us, and didnt even ask all of us for a single documents.

The things that I am really confused is-

    1. What is the most possible explanation for me getting VISA for just 3 months??? Is is due to my sister and her visa status?? Did this thing, i.e my sister being a green card holder in US, made consular feel that I can be a potential immigrant in US??
    2. As I dont have any such plan to visit US within 3 months?? Will it have negative impact the next time I apply for visa if I dont go to US this time??
    3. The next time, i.e after 6 months I will be here again in Liberia, I am planning to apply for B2 visa next time again. Is it possible for me not to mention about my elder sister in the section "do you have any relatives residing in US"?? Will they know about it?? Will they have the data of my previous DS-160 form?? Will this be the best option??
4.Or will it be the best option to apply for B2 visa back from my own country??

You cannot suppress any info about your sis on future applications when you have already mentioned it.
In this digital age, you should not even think about it. It is all there on their computers and a very common
misrepresentation by people is to suppress info about their relatives in US. and penalty for this is huge.

    BTW

    1. what was the purpose , dates you mentioned on your DS 160 and at the interview?
    2. Is there a note ( annotation) on your visa?

      Thanks!!!

      Thanks for the reply!!!!

1.The purpose and date that I had mentioned in my DS-160 form and my interview were tourism and July 15 respectively.
      2. No, there isnt anything mentioned in annotation in my VISA.

Please suggest and help me with other doubts as well that I have listed in my previous post... This would indeed be such a great help. Thanks in advance!!!

Maybe ur sis is the reason for your short term visa.
They could also be using a short term visa as a test.
To see if you really wanted to go this time or you are planning something for the long term.

Even if you did not have any short term plans to visit US, it is strongly recommended
you use this visa to visit your sister for a week or so. Even though it will cost you some money.

A proper use of this visa will make your next B1/B2 application so much easier.
If you do not use it , there will be a lot of explaining to do the next time, which will be risky.

Your links to the US might have been the reason for such a short visa. Do as suggested and use the visa properly to show your original intent was genuine (if it was). You might get a longer term visa next time.

            Thank you Peace999,

            Your suggestion is much appreciated!!!!

Yes, I think that will be the best thing to do. As for now, I will visit my sister next month for 15 days and return back. But, the real scenario is that after spending 6 months back in my native country(after completing this mission in Liberia), I will be back to Liberia again for next 6 months for another mission.

            1. So, will it be best option to apply for B2 visa next time when I will be in Liberia (that will be 1 year from now), so that they will grant me visa for a longer period of time, like they did for others without much difficulty?? Or will it be too early to apply and visit US twice within 1 year and half for tourism?? Does it make sense??

            2. Or should I apply back from my native country before I intend to take my USMLE CS exam about 1 and half year from now?? (This is my reason to visit US and was just making myself ready for this process by applying for visa this time). Many of my friends got their B1/B2 Visa rejected while they applied for their USMLE CS exams, back in my country.

            3. Will my this visa and my going and returning back from US make my next B1/B2 application easier or its just the same thing??

            4. And yes, I know it bad idea to suppress any info about my sis on future applications?? But wont it end up with the same result if i apply for the Visa next time , especially from Liberia??

Thanks is advance!! Your opinion and suggestions are highly appreciated and they indeed mean a lot for me to decide. Waiting eagerly for your reply

              Thanks cafeconleche!!!

Yes, it may be so. And, counselor also asked me about my martial status and about my job duration. What does this imply?? I am unmarried 28 years old male and dont have any immediate plans to get married, though hopefully, will be engaged soon. So, while applying for the next time, much of my scenario wont be changed, so please suggest what should I do and how should I act?? I am confused and need some help!!!

              Thanks in advance!!!

                Highly Confused

Please do not be Highly confused. it is simple and straightforward.

I mentioned in my last post that it will be easier for you the next time if you use this one properly.
Also, it is good that you have your sis in US; in the sense that you can state the purpose as visiting her
which is perfectly natural. Instead of taking step2 cs as purpose, which can be denied.
Apply from liberia when you return. No problem visiting her again in a year .

Lying abour your sis when you already mentioned her will land in you big trouble.
I am surprised what is making you think they won't notice.
Misrepresentation can mean permanent bar from any kind of visa for life.
