  • visitor visa extension

    Hi, I am Doctor and I have come to USA on B1/B2 visa having no annotation for my step 2 USMLE exam which was in May 2013. I have got a 6 month stay till November however I have 3 month visa. I plan on staying till September end in USA.

    I have two questions:

    1. I have to come back to USA for the interviews most from November onwards. so would it be advisable to extend my present visa to more 6 months with a valid documentation of an exam?

    2. I had entered USA from Houston however at immigration they din't take my white form I 94 . When i asked they said now everything is online. But still I 94 are used at other port of entry. Anyone with recent experience at immigration if can help out?

    I got answer for my second question. The automated is a new system for air and sea travelers from April 30 2013 onward.

      Q1. Weigh applying for an extension carefully ;
      If your stated purpose at the embassy was just to take step2cs, then your staying several months
      and extending your stay could backfire. If your extension is denied and you have to go back and apply for
      a new B1/B2 visa to re enter , you could be denied just because you stayed long and applied for an extension.

      And if your extension is approved and you use it, your likelihood of getting another B1/B2 will be grealy reduced.

      Also remember, extension application responses take 2-3 months to come.

        I was thinking on lines that of i would require to come a month later to USA for interviews and next exam would that not pose as problem because of time gap at embassy?

          You have 2 options;

          1. If you return now without staying long, your chances of getting the second visa will be good.

          Because they gave you the visa for cs exam , so they will give it to you for the interview as well.

          2.Apply for an extension through an attorney. Hire a top notch firm, they will prepare a
          good application for you so your chances of extension approval will be good. It will cost
          but will solve your problem. If you want I can suggest some top notch firms.
          post yr email.

          If you wish to use option 2, do it fast as you do not want the response to come after your
          currrent I-94 expires.
