Hello,
I've been reading a lot of experiences of young applicants, so I wanted to share my current status as I've already scheduled my interview this week.
I just want some opinions from you, guys.
I'm finishing my first year at college here (20 y.o. in August) in Bucharest, Romania, following the BA in Cultures Studies. I've had good results this year, I've managed to become the First Year Students' Representative in the Students Council and got into many projects. The main one is sponsored by an European programme (Youth in Action) and I'm managing a team made of 4 students. Also, I'm an active member of a choir and we had lots of shows in the last two years. Besides this, I'm following Bucharest School of Art, studying voice performance and piano. It is crucial to return here, because I need to go on with the projects.
After I graduate, I'm willing to follow Bucharest National University of Music, for a degree in Composition.
My parents have stable jobs, but cannot afford to pay my expenses for a trip to the US. I live with them in a 3-bedroom flat they own for almost 20 years. They also own a land outside Bucharest (is it important to show this to the officer?). I got an invitation from a very good family friend that lives in California. He used to work with mom on a project in Prague, where we actually met and kept in touch since then, and he's willing to help me with the AoS in the process. So my parents helped me with the fees & passport taxes and our friend sent us financial proof, statements and a letter that will help me throughout the process.
I've been travelling a lot since 2009, because I like exploring countries on my own, but also with my parents. Affording a Europe trip is less expensive than going to America, anyway. Every summer we get to see some places in Romania or in Europe. I'm involved in a relationship here for almost 3 years and I really love my girlfriend. Another thing that is important right in this moment is my sister's wedding, which obviously requires my presence, at the end of August (I'm planning to visit the US next month).
Besides some documents about my school activity, photos with me and my family, my girlfriend, my puppy and my choir, should I show some documents of my parents or the property?
What are my chances?
I do believe that sometimes it's all about the attitude. According to the US embassy in Bucharest website 'tips' for young applicants, I have equal chances to get a visa if I know how to motivate the importance of finishing education here.
Thank you,
Cristian
