green card to bring dad from india

Hi,
I am a green card holder and I ve been in the country for less than a year.I am unmarried and am looking forward to bring my dad on a visitors visa here.I have booked a date in sept.Now I have a few questions Plz help me with that
1.Since I ve been less than a year now in the country will that be a problem?to bring my dad
2.When i had filled the tts form for the date, I had mentioned that my dad was retired but he has documnets to prove that he is working Should he show those documents that he is working...Inspite of my mistake of mentioning retired???( it was my mistake)and I am unable to modify that on the website as they mentioned we could do.
3.I have a younger brother who is studying and stays with my dad.I would like to know what type of documents he should show that my brother stays with him and is studying......I mean anything from the college
4.Is there any form of pre appointment date confirmation that we need to confirm that he is attending the interview......do we need to pay anything to consulate before we appear for the interview other than the $100 and $50 dd

2. If he is working, you can rectify that at the interview; I mean
DS-156 and what you answer at the interview has more relevance.
He should also get a letter form his employer stating that the job is
ongoing and the period of leave granted.
3. It won't really come to showing a proof for your brother.
They will just believe what he says about him. But still, he can
carry an enrollment letter from his college.

I wanted to clarify that my dad is a self employed man .He does his own real estate buisness.So there is no employer ,so do u suggets that he shows that he is retired (that I mentioned while i booked the date) or that he owns buisness.Moreover he is a widower so would that be a reason enough to reject the visa?

Do not show "retired".Having a business will go well in his favour; it serves as a tie to home country,something that the person will come back to. He should prepare his app. well on this point. Like show business registration, balance sheets, tax returns, his own savings bank statements etc.
Being a widower may not go against him if he can show strong business
ties and your brother living with him can go in his favour.

Tips; If he shows that he is spending his own money on the trip,
it may go in his favour. And he should say that he only wants to go for
a month or so , since he has his business to attend to.

thanks for ur reply but ,I ve heard thatif we mention that we want to stay for a month in the usa,they cud just issue a 3 months visa.I had filled 6months in point 26 in ds 156.Is that Ok??Would that cause a problem??
Another question is that since my dad is 53yrs and he is attending the interview in chennai should he fill the ds157 form too???

6 months would cause a real problem. Do you think a real estate businessman
can leave his business behind for 6 months? There are several posts on this
forum where a visa has been denied on this point alone.

What if he is granted only a 3 month visa; US visa,hard to get as it is,
a 3 month visa is welcome too. And anyway , 3 month visa does not
mean he can spend only 3 months in US. The duration of stay will be stamped by the inspector at the entry airport.

Yes , he needs to complete form DS-157.

Hi,
DS 157 NEED NOT be filled by your father. It is for males between 16 and 45. And if her is going to the Chennai Consulate, he can carry a physical DS 156 with duration 3 months written on it. IF you have filed it online, the consulate will probably not even have a track of it. Even otherwise decisions will be based on the DS 156 which he takes with him. So change/update the info on that.

There is some confusion about DS 157. Chennai and Delhi websites for
US embassy have different instructions regarding DS-157. Delhi website
says that all applications made need a DS 157 while the chennai website
limits it only for 16-45 age group. I guess you confirm it with
the TTS in chennai.
