  • Inviting Family Members Residing in Another Country to US

Hello: My brother and his family are Indian citizens but working in Kuala Lumpur for the past 3 years. I am an US citizen and would like to invite them to US to visit USA and us for 3/4 weeks in December this year.

What are the documents that I need to send from here? (I 134 and Invitation Letter etc.)
Will they have to apply for visitor visa in American consulate in Kuala Lumpur or India?
Will he get medical insurance in India or Kuala Lumpur or here?
Has anyone been in a similar situation and can you please share your experience and documents etc?

    Thanks a lot in advance

Living in Malaysia for 3 years , your brother has work and family ties in malaysia so he should apply in malaysia.
If he is earning very well , he should show self funding and you only need to send an invitation and a copy of your US passport.
Self funding whenever possible increases the chances of getting a visa as it shows good financial ties to country of residence.
If he is not earning well, you can send an I-134 with financial documents.

Medical insurance is NOT a requirement for gettig a visa and US entry. It is optional.
If they opt to purchase it , they should buy an american travel insurance as it works well in case of ER visits.
Patriot america is said to be good. This IMMIHELP website has a page where you can buy that.
