  • B2 visa for widowed mom approved after two rejects

My widowed mom's b2 visa was rejected twice under potential immigrant category. We are three sons all in the US with no siblings in India. She got it approved recently the third time. I want to share our experience so that it is helpful to other people who are in the same boat.

My mom is conversant only in Tamil and very shy type, so we tired to do three things differently this time:
    1) answer two most important questions within the visa application form in english.

    a) why she wants to go to the US? - to visit her three sons, visa copy attached and also tourist places like...

    b) how long she will stay there? - maximum 3 months as she has to return due to so and so reasons.

    2) We attached our visa copies with a cover letter. She had all other supporting documents ( affifidavit of support, suggesting return to india) in her bag in case they asked.

    3) trained her in front of mirror, for different possible questions (see these forums for the questions) and resisted her one line answers without reasons. Of course she was game to the whole thing :-).

At her interview, her training helped boost her confidence and they read the whole application and also asked her one question- so you have three sons in US? saw our visa stamping copies ( this has all the information where your son works etc... helps avoid answering extra questions) and approved visa five minutes flat without any further questions.

The three steps ofcourse does not guarantee but just may increase your odds.

Please keep us posted if this helped your parents (especially if single parent only) case. Will make our day happy too just like yours.

    Regards,
    RK
