What if your visa application is rejected? I would not want to purchase an expensive ticket before knowing the fate of my application.

Check with your local agents...sometimes they can block ticket...don't need to pay anything up front. ..say you have interview tomorrow.. block it a day before. ..

Some (most) airlines will give you a full refund of your ticket if your visa is denied. Read the refund section of the fare rules for the ticket you are trying to book or ask your travel agent. This refund is only given on visa denial not if it is delayed due to administrative processing. You will be really stuck if your visa goes into administrative processing.
