b2 visa

Hey,

I am currently travelling the US and have finished work on a summer camp on a j1 visa, I also applied and got a b2 visa and was told that in order for the b2 visa to activate i need to leave the US during the grace period of the j1 visa. I have a few questions in regards to this.

1-what will the process be as I leave and enter in regards to my new visa activating, and does canada count as leaving the US even if I only do it for a day?

If you are going to be inspected by US immigration officer when you come back (depends upon your mode of travel etc.), then it counts.
