help needed pls

I have submitted DS160 for my parents and also saved it on my computer but now problem is its.dat file and my father is unable to open it. i have googled on how to open this file type but no use. Can anyone tell me how they have opened .dat file please its urgent

I dont think you can open the .dat file. That file needs to be uploaded whenever you revive your DS160 application. May be you can try sending that file to your father and he can upload it ?

You can retrieve your DS 160 anytime by application id number if its not completed and submitted. Other thing if you have completed and also submitted the ds 160 u can save it as pdf format and u get confirmation pdf file inbthe email also. Why u want to save it as .dat while u can retrieve online anytime can make changes

dat file is for retrieving an incomplete application. For accessing the submission confirmation page (with CEAC barcode) you need to print it (or save it as pdf) as soon as you submit it. If you have the CEAC number, it may be possible to retrieve the submission confirmation page, but I am not sure. If that is not possible, submit another DS160 and use that new one to book the appointment or inform Visa processing service (Stanley) about the new submission.

Thanks everyone for your replies.. Yes i have printed the confirmation and also have it emailed to me but i wanted the application form printout itself so my parents could have it with them. I had heard it could be saved and accessed later so i casually saved it and submitted the form and did not take print of it before submission. At time of saving the only option available is .dat chetan so couldn't save it in pdf or any other format.
Anyway another query guys, say name is ZZZ, father's name is yyy and surname is zzz. Now in passport as well as in DS160 it comes as zzz xxx yyy. Now for interview schedule it asks first name and 2nd column is last name so pls tell me how to fill name columns in interview schedule page.

They don't need the application itself. They only need the submission page.
