PURPOSE AND STAY: Clear cut, well defined ONE purpose and DURATION of
stay that MAKES SENSE with your personal, family, occupational and financial background. DO NOT mix purposes
like, "I want to visit my US citizen brother and look for equipment for
my factory". OR
"We want to go sightseeing and visit our children in US"
PURSE (funds): A good regular INCOME, and not just good funds is
very important. "What is your income?" is a routine question that is a quick
way for the consular to decide on two main issues; ability to fund the trip and the potential to stay back in US. (People with good incomes at home
are less likely to stay back in US). This is true even if you have an I-134
from your host in the US. If denied the visa, people are left wondering
why the consular did not look at the tons of savings, property documents
they so dilligently prepared.
PINS(ties to home); Ties that will bring the applicant back.Mostly these are a good income from a
stable occupation (like a well paying permanent job, a running business with a good turnover and many employess) and family ties like young
children or spouse/children not travelling .
In the end it is a sensible matching combination of all 3 factors and the
general impression of honesty that decides the outcome.
Examples of badly matched 3 criteria inviting a refusal;
*I am 23, single and earn 10,000 at a private company. I wish to
go for tourism.
(young, single, less income, casual purpose--unlikely to return home)
*I am 21, a single student and I wish to go and meet my girl friend in US.
( may marry girl friend and not return home)
*I am an employee with a private company drawing 30,000/m. My wife
is a housewife and I have 2 young children 10 and 6. We all want to
visit my US citizen brother in US.
(fine income but all of them going to a US citizen relation
raises suspicion they may not come back)
*I am 60, retired, draw a pension of 6000/m. My wife is a housewife.
All my 3 children are in US. Both of us want to go for 6 months.
(no financial or family ties in India.May want to stay back with
children in US. 6 month stay too long).
