  • '**/advised'- what does this means

    Hi,

My mom recently traveled from India to Newark. The immigration officer at Newark, after asking few questions, made 2 stars and wrote 'advised' note on the stamped page. Its written as '**/advised' on passport stamp.

    What does this means?

    Do not know.
Maybe we can deduce from the following:

*What were the questions asked of your mother?
*How much stay was she given?
*When was her last visit and how much did she stay?
    * is she a very frequent visitor and/or long stayer?

Officers have their own ways and means of passing on information to their fellow officers. If you can list your mom's B2 travel history/duration and purpose in the past it might help fellow boarders to warn about potential red flags.

This is my opinion not legal advice.

        Here are the details:

She first came to US for duration 10-Dec-12 & 8-Jun-13

She second came this time for requested duration 30-Sep-13 & 29-Mar-13. At airport, she had problem with finger printing as the machine could not get clear finger prints. Upon this, she was taken to separate room for 15 mins and were asked questions like:
-Who are you going to stay with?
-What is he doing in US?
-Since how long is he staying here in US?
-How long are you planning to be in US?
-Where do you lives in India?
-Who take care of you in India?
        -Any other son/Daughter?
        -Is your daughter earning?
-Are you under care of your daughter?
-Who bears your financial expenses in India?
Some 10 mins of more computer work and she got the stamping on her passport.

I hope I provided enough information.

if she stayed full 6 months dec12 to june 13 and then returned in sept 2013, with a gap of only 2 months, that is why she was questioned
          for 15 minutes.

In future she should give it a 6-7 month gap if she is staying full 6 months. A strict officer can even send her back to INdia if she returns too quickly.

** /advised may be a way of recording secondary inspection on the passport.
