I spent the summer in the USA working as a student with a J-1 visa. Now I'm thinking on applying for a Tourist visa (B-2), in order to see my friends back in the states for the Christmas holydays. I would also like to spend the next summer there too. So, my question is - if, lets say, I get a B-2 visa can this be a problem for applying for the J-1 visa next summer? Is there such a thing as a certain period of time between visas and entering and exiting the states?

Can a B-2 tourist visa conflict with a J-1 visa or the other way round?

You have an interesting User name
You just have to maintain ties to your home country and a few months' distance between two visits . So it does not appear that
you are spending more time in US than at home. Both B2 and J-1 require maintenance of non-immigrant intent.
Also make sure your J-1 does not have a mandatory 2 yr home stay requirement before you get another visa.Last edited by peace999; 10-05-2013, 07:19 AM.
