    hi i have surrendered my passport and not got a surrender certificate.

    i need to visit family member urgently as mum is seriously ill. will i still need a surrender certificate as time is
    very short and i need to go.

    You'll have to go to the high commission and beg them to cooperate. My family had to do the same at the consulate in San Francisco, and after a few hours of BS they gave us a visa for 6 months.

      what did you have to provide? doctors note, etc?

        Well, my grandfather died, but it had happened a few hours before and we didn't even have a death certificate. So, we just had to plead, and explain that in India, you can't always get documents you need in an emergency (like the bastards at the consulate don't know that). So, if you have documentation, it would really help your case. A doctor's note would be perfect I'd think.
