Getting new visa with unexpired visa

Hello

My inlaws have their visa until March 2006. They have an appointment with the consulate in Jan 2006 to obtain a new visa for Visting US in April 2006. Since they will have a valid visa at the time they go for an appointment, is that going to be a problem?

No problem. They can explain that they are planning to visit USA in APril 2006.

Thank you. Would you know if they would at that point cancel the current multiple entry visa and issue a new one, from the date of the appointment? I have never seen them issue a post dated visa.

Yes, that is what they will do; cancel the existing visa and issue a new
one from the date of appointment.
