First visit to USA on B2 visa

My parents were approved 10 yrs - Multiple entry B2 visa this August 2013. I was planning them to travel to US in May 2014 as the weather would be more accommodating during that time.
But someone said that the the visa should be used within 6 months from the date of approval for the first time. That means my parents have to travel within 6 months to USA ( by Feb 2014) to use their visa the first time.

Does anyone know if this is a valid rule?

That's false. They can come any time the visa is valid.

Immigrant visa's are the one with the 6 month requirement, not tourist visa.

Even I have heard of the same thing. I was going to start the new thread with the same question but came across your question. My parents got the visitor visa this month and they want to travel in February 2014. During their interview they were planning to come in November, so said November. Does this matter. Would they be safe to delay their vacation from November to February. Please help. Thanks

Yes. If there is no restrictive note( annotation) on the visa, they can delay it.

I answered "yes" because you asked the same question that we'd just answered. So, once again, if they have a B2 visa, they can enter ANY TIME the visa is valid, EVEN AFTER A DELAY of several months or years.
