Is return Ticket for Visitor visa mandatory

Hello Sir/Madam,

My mother is planning to travel USA next month and i have booked the ticket to USA. I have not booked the return ticket because there will be 2 more people who would be accompanying her from USA back to India. so can you please suggest me as am not sure as how to make a decision as i might relocate to somewhere else depending on my project extension. Please suggest me so that i do not want to take any risk at the last moment. Thank you all for your valuable suggestions.

Even through strictly not mandatory by law, it is so highly recommended that visitors come with return ticket that you can practically consider that it is mandatory.

A visitor trying to enter with no return ticket will look like he is just going to stay in the US and has no intention to go back. That would certainly create problems at the port of entry.
