  • b2 visa for (young&unemployed) Canadian permanent resident

It's been 5 years since i became Canadian permanent resident. My tickets to US are already booked (17 days stay in a resort during the holiday season, resort is also booked). Was planning to go with my boyfriend and his family (all Canadians, their tickets are also booked, just i am supposed to leave a little later right after my semester is over). I just applied for b1/b2 visa but after reading some of previous posts I started to stress out! I personally think that i have enough ties here in Canada but not sure if it will work on the day of interview... I am only 21yo, full time student in a college in Montreal, graduating in may 2014 (starting my last semester upon the "planned" arrival from States). I don't work but my parents send me the money+ i'm getting college bursary (so it is possible to print my bank statement showing the money in the account). My boyfriend is Canadian, has a governmental job. I am planning to apply for Canadian Citizenship in February (haven't applied yet because once i lost my pr card while on vocations so had to get a travel document to come back to Canada and renew the card, it will be 3 years with my new card in January). I also have a surgery (free surgery, since i posses Canadian medicare card) scheduled 2 weeks after the "planned" arrival from US.
With all this information, how do i convince the Officer that i have enough ties? The fact that i am unemployed and young is crucial
    Thank you

Where do your parents live? do they also have a canada PR?

Usually canadian PRs do not have a problem getting a US visitor visa if they have been a PR for a long time.
Students going to US for vacation do get visas even when they are on student status in canada.

Just be positive and hope for the best. Do take with you to the interview, college enrolment, leave and bank staement with funds.
You cannot convince them; they will decide reading your DS160 and asking you questions.

My parents (divorced) reside in Europe, however my father became Canadian citizen 4 years ago, he immigrated earlier than i did. My Mother has never been Canada.

Approximately, How much money should be there in my bank account?
I also included in my ds160 that i am travelling with certain people (my boyfriend, his parents). Do i need their ticket confirmations?

No, you do not need any ticket confirmations for anybody.

Usually they do not look at any documents but they very likely will look at your PR card.
and they will ask about who is funding you , you can say your dad, they can ask about his work and his income.
You must have more than enough to cover your trip cost.

          Thank you so much!
I have something else to ask... Will it be enough to bring the Unofficial version of transcript (available on college website) or it would be better if i order the official one?
Also, since i am going there with my boyfriend(canadian, has been working at the same place for the last 14 years), can i say that he will b also paying for my stay in us? I can bring his income tax papers

I think you must have a real paper from college showing you are enrolled there , not an online version.
Friend funding; NO. You must show your own source. yourself or your parents.

Thank you.... My interview is coming up and i have a very bad feeling about it after going through some of the threads on this forum. Apparently i have no chances to get visa
I also checked my pr card, i've been a canadian resident for 7years, not 5like i mentioned earlier...
Just one little question (i'm looking for all options...) if i will also say (show) that i have a loan to pay here in Canada?? Will it help anyhow?
The thing with my boyfriend, we've been living together for like a year, would he be considered as a "tie" to Canada?
i am very sorry for probably not the smartest questions , it's just that the tickets are on hands, condo reserved, everything planned and everyone is waiting for my visa

                Just be confident and positive. a 7 yr PR status is a huge positive you have. Just make sure you answer well about the source of money ;
tell them you are being funded by your parents and you may be asked about what they do and how much your dad earns.
Also be crystal clear about your itinerary, how many days you will spend in US , where etc.
Mostly they decide on how you answer the questions rather than any documents.

I have a question for you too away from the context, if you do not mind.
If one decides to move to montreal for good, is it possible to live there without knowing any french?
Or can one learn a bit of french living there? Can you tell me a bit about life there? Pros and Cons. I am an Indian.
                thanks

I love Montreal. You can tell that It is definitely not a european city at the same time it is not Americanized like Toronto. Just a perfect balance.
It is good to be a student here(one of the best world's schools, social benefits, part time jobs) At any age! That's for sure. However It is quite hard for an adult immigrant to find a good full time job unless you already know what are you going to do upon your arrival (have an invitation or already found something or hired somewhere...).

Like in the rest of Canada, Medicine is free, once you obtain your official status, you are provided with a medicare card.

                  Very high taxes though...

French is not as important as it may seems. You unconsciously will learn some just by hearing it here and there on daily bases + there is a big number of french language schools (including the free of charge ones)
Eventually you will need some basic French because, for example, all the road signs (including the ones for parking, even in english parts of the city) are in French, some of grocery stores/restaurants don't have english labels/menus.
I speak french (immigrant child background-as a child of immigrants you are not allowed to attend english english high school, only french) honestly there is barely any of it left in my life ever since i graduated from french high school and started english college. All the people working at governmental establishments/post offices/stores/restaurants etc etc must be bilingual so you will never have problem communicating with them.
Definitely there are those hard core french areas where they will look funny at you (or they might even make an inappropriate comment) if you start to speak english over there but that's about it, there is definitely less and less french in the city nowadays

I can answer any question, i wasn't just too sure what to write right now

I'm sorry for being annoying but one more question...I'm involved into bursary/loan program. And am already granted a bursary portion for the school year 2014-2015. Do i have to mention it? Or it will make them doubt about my parents being able to pay for me? And if i am not able to give any papers proving my parents status, do i still have chances?...

                    thanks for answering my qs.

I think you should mention about the bursary if asked who is fundig ur studies.
Just say bursary and parents. Do carry a statement to show enough funds to cover the trip whether
it is bursary or parents. Does not matter if you cannot show parents' status, it won't come to that in my opinion.
They may not look at any documents but just ask figures ( how much are your student expenses and how
much are your parents sending , how much is the bursary) to see if you have enough money for the trip
. All depends on the officer. Be confident and good luck.

BTW, can I have ur email? may want to ask you more about montreal later. You can PM it to me.
                    where are you originally from?
                    thanks
