Visitor Visa - Round Trip Ticket - POE I94 Validity

Hi,

First of all let me take this opportunity to thank immihelp and its members who have immensely helped me in applying/getting B2 visa for my parents.

They got their visa on Oct 23 2013. The interview was a breeze according to them.

Anyways, I am trying to book tickets for them and the question I have is:

1. Is it safe to take a round trip ticket(India-USA-India) for a period of 5.5 months?

2. Will a Port Of Entry Officer give a lesser I94 validity(for eg 3 months)?

From what I understand, canceling or pre-poning tickets will be hard.

Hi Poornima,
Congratulations on your parents getting visitor visas. Since your parents are visiting USA for the first time, the normal questions asked for a first time visitors are:
1. What is the purpose of your visit to USA?
2. With whom will you be staying?
3. How long you intend to stay in USA?
Based on the satisfactory answers the Immigration Officer at port of entry normally allow a stay of 6 months. So, a return ticket 10 days before the expiry of I 94 date is advisable for any unforeseen circumstances.
