  • Interval between applying for B2 Visa twice after successful previous US Entry on B2

    Hello Everybody!!!

I am currently working as a UN staff in Liberia. I applied for B2 Visa June this year (about 5 months ago) from Liberia, and got a single entry visa for 3 months duration. Then, I traveled to USA in July (4 months ago) , stayed there for 15 days and returned back to Liberia. Now, I am planning to apply for B2 Visa again this time before I complete my tenure and return back to my country. But the thing that I am worried about is that-

    1. Is it perfectly normal for me to try for B2 Visa again within this short period of time (5 months after my first Visa application, and 4 months after my previous USA visit)??? Or whether it would look as though I am too desperate to enter US??
2.What is the case with tourism visa?? Can people travel to US for tourism purpose quick and regular often as long as they dont overstay in their previous visits or does it make it look like they are too desperate to enter US??
    2. If I should wait, how long should I ideally wait before applying for a next B2 visa??
    3. What are the chances that I will be given a longer duration and multiple entry visa this time?? Will my previous US visit add an advantage to it??? Or is it same this time too?? Note that my previous condition haven't change much than before - I am 28 years old unmarried male with a permanent government job back in my country for about 4 years duration.

I would be grateful if anyone could help me out with this. I am really confused, I need your help guys !!!

    Thanks in advance!!!!

you were given a short term visa because you were away from your home country and your then-current situation was temporary in liberia. They give you a long term multipe entry visa when you apply from a permanent well settled situation, where the officers do not need to assess your situation again after one visit.

B2 is a pleasure visit and it may be too soon for another pleasure visit in 4 months. There is no hard and fast rule about the interval between two visits. Each case is judged on common sense and the big picture presented. For tourist purpose, I would suggest you wait a few more months when a second tourism visit would seem natural.

Thank you for such a prompt reply, Peace!!!!

Almost all of my fellow members and other UN staff, expect me and the other guy, were issued 5 years multiple entry visa here. There scenario was almost similar to me in the sense that they were applying from third country rather than their own native country, were here for a fixed tenure and had applied for visa to spend their vacation at US in their leave. Me and my other friend who were issued 3 months single entry visa also had similar situation expect that I have my elder sister in US who is green card holder and my friend had his both parents in US who were DV lottery winner, whereas all my fellow members who were issued 5 years multiple visa had only their friends or distant relatives in US. Also to add to it, I am unmarried whereas all other are married.

So, the thing is if I again choose to apply, when should I apply?? Will 6 months gap be enough???

Also, will there be any added probabilty that I would be issued 5 years multiple visa this time if i apply again wisely maintaining a proper decent gap??? Will my previous visit to US have any role this time??? Or is it that since most of scenarios hasnt change, this time too they will be hesistant to issue long term visa???

      Thanks in advance!!!

B1/B2 decisions are very officer-discretion dependent, meaning different officers can take diffrent decisions for a similar situation.
That said, your proper usage of a 3 month single entry visa can be a big factor in them issuing you a longer term visa.
Also, a 6 month gap should be fine. Also be careful with the duration of visit you mention as it should match both the purpose and the leave from your job.
visiting sis in US is a natural purpose, more natural than frequent tourism every few months.

Thank you so much, Peace!! It really helped me a lot to make a wise desicion. I think I should apply in about december (near to christmas and new year) and should mention my purpose of visit as visiting my sis to celebrate christmas and new year with her and tourism as well.. What do you say????

I think this will work fine and hopefully they will issue my 5 yrs multiple visa... :-)

          Thanks once again!!!
