Visa for USMLE and interviews

I am currently in US in order to take my USMLE step 3 and interviews.My duration of stay is upto 6th jan,2006.The problem is my interviews may continue upto late january or even february.
my question is :Is it possible to leave and reenter US within say, a week{interviews are tightly clustered together and we do not get much time in between}without causing problems?
Is applying for extension a better option?
Please share your opinion!

Do not leave and reenter so soon. You could be stopped at entry.
I do not think you have an option but to apply for an extension even if
the approval/denial could take many months.

If i were to apply for an extension,would my pending interviews be a convincing reason for them to grant my extension?

Since the visa you have now was granted to appear for interviews,
it is the most rational reason for extension too.
