  • Is being self employed enough to secure B2 tourist visa

    Hi,

Essentially my question is: Is being self employed (i.e. I own a consultancy company in the UK (that only I work for)) enough, on its own, to prove financial or economic ties back to the UK, and therefore likely that my B2 visa application by successful?

Just to provide a little more detail..... I am currently self employed and my current contract finishes in February, Im then looking to take 5 months off to travel around USA, after which I will return to London to secure a new contract. I understand I need to prove social, economic and financial ties to the UK, however I am single, 29 years old, don't own a home, and don't have any children. Therefore the only way I can see to prove I intend to return to the UK is to show that I work for myself and that my company is registered in the UK. Im looking to understand if this is enough on its to secure the B2 visa during the interview.

Also I have previously taken time off work before to travel the world, I've taken one year out in 2005-2006 (to visit numerous countries incl USA) and approx 8 months in 2010 (to vist numerous countries incl USA). I can prove with the stamps in my passport that I've visited these countries and always returned back home to work. Would this be taken in consideration during the interview? as I understand it the interviewer may only ask specific questions therefore this may not come up, is this correct?

I appreciate you cant give a definitive answer however any advice would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

Are you a British national and did you travel to US before on your visa waiver?

      Im a UK citizen
When I've travelled to US before its been using the ESTA as I planned to stay for less than 90 days.
I haven't had a visa before, just the ESTA which allows you up to 90 days.
I've been in the USA in
      2006 for 2 months
      2010 for 20 days
2013 twice for 9 days each

Please beware that a B1/B2 denial will make you ineligible to travel on visa waiver( ESTA) in future.

Looking at your situation ( single, young, contract based work) , there is a good chance you will be denied.
They look at strong ties to home country that are sure to bring you back; which , in your presentation will be lacking.

If it is really a 5 mnth pleasure visit,my recommendation is, reduce it to less than 90 days. And use your ESTA instead
of applying for a visit visa.
