I am interested in finding out why a valid visitor’s visa (a 5 year visa that was only two months old) was cancelled (without being informed or told that it was being cancelled) when my son applied for a student visa here at the Embassy in Cape Town South Africa.
My son, Grant Lile, is disabled and has been in a wheelchair for about 16 years.
He attended the North West Community College in R****s Arkansas for two years before going on to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville for 4 years where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism after which he returned to South Africa.
In August of this year he applied for and was granted a visitor’s visa to return to the USA to attend his brother’s wedding (brother has been in USA for 14 years and has a green card)
He decided he would like to do the MBA course at the University of Arkansas (which he knows well and is wheelchair friendly)
After returning from the wedding (and having obtained the I20 form from the college) he made an appointment to go to the Embassy here in Cape Town to apply for the student visa – this was declined without any explanation other than the pre-prepared document which he was handed which stated that he did not show sufficient ties to South Africa that might lead to him deciding not to come back.
He put forward a full explanation in an email that he stays with us (his parents) and is also the sole proprietor of a company importing and sell Belgium Chocolates. The registration papers from CIPC were included. He wants to do the MBA in order to expand his sales and marketing knowledge.
The second appointment was a carbon copy of the first and without ANY discussion he was simply handed the same sheet of paper as the first time – declined.
Now I understand that the granting of the student visa is at the discretion of whoever is responsible for scrutinising his application BUT WHAT I DON’T UNDERSTAND IS ON WHAT GROUNDS DID THEY CANCELL HIS VALID VISITORS VISA???
No amount of attempting to contact and speak to someone at the Embassy has resulted in so much as a response or reply.
I would appreciate it if you could explain the rationale behind such treatment.
