  • Parents Visitor Visa Rejected - Suggestions for Next Try

My parents visitor visa was rejected in New Delhi last week. He denied after asking if my parents own their home. They do not as they rent and thus the officer denied.

They wanted to visit us as I was quite busy with my job the past few years but will have some time now. They have never been to the US or traveled outside the country.

    Specifics:

My parents have two daughters (me included) - we both are US Green Card holders. They do not have any other children.
I have been in the US since 2008 and my sister since 2003. My sister has 1 son and I do not have any kids.
I am married to a US-born citizen. My sister's husband is a Green Card holder (born in India).
My father is employed (monthly salary of Rs 15,000/mo) and my mother is a house wife.
    My husband sponsored their application.

We would like for them to apply again. What would be the best strategy?

    Who should sponsor?
Should my mom apply separately first?
Any suggestions on how to better show ties? I don't think purchasing a house is possible at this moment.

Having both children in US as GC holders is a big negative for a visitor visa. The next negative is his low income( no offence).
Even if your husband is sponsoring, good income is important as a financial tie to home country.

Having own home is not always mandatory but the officer wanted to see some positive tie to home country
    to grant them the visa.

Chances are slim for the reasons mentioned above; you really can't change much in
their siuation to make a significant difference. Mother traveling alone does not make it any better.
They can try again if they want to . And if denied again, they will just have to wait till one of you becomes a US citizen
and sponsor them for a green card.

Thank you. Understand the odds are stacked against us. Would it make a difference if my parents sponsored themselves? Or would that draw more attention to their finances?

It certainly would, the officer would want to know definite source of the income and associated IT returns. With both daughters in US, many VOs suspect help in pregnancy too hence do not grant a visitor visa easily. As peace mentioned, the only option would be to try again or await sponsorship when one of you become US citizen.

This is my opinion not legal advice.

          Don't worry and try again

Looking at your situation I would suggest you to try again with the same docs, procedures. It was just a bad day for them.
If they don't have their own house, they can't go to meet their daughters. How relevant is that? I don't think so.
If they are earning a salary of 15k they can't go, this is also not relevant because I have read so many case histories wherein people with the same income bracket have got their visas.

My best wishes with them and also you owe a drink if they get their visas.

          Cheers
