  • B2 visa for 2 months, need advise plz

    Hello all,

Need your advise. I am going on a B1 visa for 1 month or so. And my mom is also going to come along on a B2, and we got an invite letter from our distant relative in US for 2 months. I have following queries:

    1. Can i specify the B2 stay for my mom to be 2 months or is it too long to get passed the interview? (Invite letter has 2 months written in letter)
    2. I know that actual stay is decided at US airport, so can i convince the officer to get 3 months for B2?
    3. If my mom gets a B2 stay of say only 1 month, can i ask to extend it in US?
    3. During interview, is it better to tell the invitee is distant relative or a friend?

    Thank you.

Your post is not very clear.

Do you already have a B1/B2 and you are making a B1 visit for your work?
And your mother is going to apply for a B2? Is that correct?

    Also very relevant are the following issues;
    1.What about your dad?
    2. Do you have any siblings in India?
3.Does your mother have a history of travel abroad?
    4. Has she been denied a US visa before?

Yes, i have my B1 recently done for my work.

And your mother is going to apply for a B2? Is that correct?
Yes, i want to take my mom along with me on B2 visa during my stay.
But i have got an invite letter from a relative for her and the place where U.S relative stays is different city in U.S than my stay. So i am showing that she is going to stay with him and i will join them if i am free from my work or on weekends.

1.What about your dad? He is going to stay in India.
      2. Do you have any siblings in India? No.
      3. Does your mother have a history of travel abroad? No.
      4. Has she been denied a US visa before? No.

      Please advise. Thanks.

an invite from a distant relative/friend may not be a good thing. If it was a close relative like her brother/sister, first cousin
who are in close touch it would be ok.

Instead she can just show she is visiting US with you and you can show a hotel stay for her as well as you, it will be better. Though
for a tourist visit it would be appropriate that your dad also apply with her.As they will surely ask why she is going without your dad.
Usually husband & wife travel together, so that may seem unnatural.

The correct duration would be the duration you would be in US for ...a few weeks , so to show she will return with you.

Also, If she had a history of travel abroad, it would have gone in her favour.

Thank you for your advise. So if i do as per your suggestion of showing her stay with me in the hotel. But if my business stay increase more than 15 days to say 1 month.. then can i ask extension of her stay in US B2 as well? and how to do that?

they always give first time B2 tourists 6 m o nths of stay at US entry airport even if you tell them you need 15 days . So , you do not need to worry about that.

What you need to worry about is getting her the visa.
Why isn't your dad going ? Is he working or retired? Also, are you single or married? Who is paying for her trip?

              Thanks for clearing the doubt.

I am single. Dad is retired and not coming as its too cold currently in US & wont suite him. I am paying for her trip.

So as per you i should avoid the relative invite method right? and mom to tell the interviewer straight way the facts that she is coming with me on my company trip as a visitor and specify the hotel details.

See, visiting a close relative is a strong reason but a distant one may make it weaker.

Can you tell me what is the exact relation of distant relative and are you people in regular touch
or you have just asked them for the invitation for the visa purpose?

A friend of mine also suggested me the same perspective of yours, that only mom coming along..to some distant relatve in winter..doesnt seem two add up well.. Neither to say the truth tat its Business trip for son and i am just accompanying him.

He suggested get the visa of both parents done together. And as both are retired/homemaker show their independence? How do i show this independence? Cant i say that i am sponsoring?

                    Correct.

                    change the following;
*Let your parents travel to smaller countries before applying for a US visa.
*change the travel time to summer time.
                    *Both of them should apply.
*They can also show a package tour to US in summer instead of going with you
*Going with you on your business trip is not a bad idea but then there won't be any family tie left behind
because you are single so a package tour may be an option.
*If your dad has strong savings like 20-25L , he can show self funding . If not,
show funding by you and show your income papers . you must have good income like 1L/mo or so.

Bottom line is; chances may be 50-50 for them as they are retired, homemaker and you are not married.
but one has to try to succeed.
