  • B2 Visa Extension

    Hi,

I have applied for my parent's visitors visa extension for another six months as they are completing their 6 months stay in US by Feb last.We have not got the approval yet. Now due to some urgency, my dad needs to travel back to India, and he is planning his travel next week and my mom would be staying back. My doubts here are as follows:
    1. Can my dad travel alone and can my mom stay here, since i have applied for their extension together?
    2. Will my father need to carry the extension receipt while he is travelling?
    3. Suppose if my dad comes back after 4 or 5 months, then will he be able to stay only for the remaining 1 month for which he had been granted extension, provided we get the approval for their extension now? Or can he stay for another 6 months ?

    Appreciate all the help !

    Thanks,
    Neha

yes, the approvals take 2-4 months.
and yes, your dad can travel alone . He does not need to carry any extension filing receipt if he is leaving before the expiry of current I-94. ( recommended he should do that)
If he leaves after the I-94 date , then he must save the extension filing papers and his departure boarding passes to be able to enter next time.

Once he leaves, his extension appl. will technically become void. whether it is a denial or an approval in his absence won't matter and it won't carry over to the next admission. His next admission will be considered a new one and granted a stay as judged by the officer.
