  • Question for B1/B2 interview (parents' reapplying for visitor's visa)

My parents are reapplying for B1/B2 visa. Their visa was rejected in April 2012 under 214(B).
What should they answer if asked: 1) What is different between last time and this time?

My father's annual income has increased (it is about 10 lacs now) and they are self sponsoring their trip this time. Can they tell this to the visa officer in these words? What more can be included?

Please let me know. Thanks so much.

    Sincerely,
    GKS.

because the length of time is not short ( about 2 yrs), they are not likely to ask this question.
This question is usually asked when people reapply too quickly , when the change in their situation is unlikely.

You have to post more details about what their life situation; like what happened last time? Do they have any children in India?
How many in US and on what visas? what duration of visit did they mention the last time? etc.etc.

      Additional info

Thank you so much for your response. Last time, they were asked about number of children and i think abt my father's medical practice. Regarding the details, they have one daughter and no other children. I I am on H4 visa and my husband is on H1B visa from 2010. The duration of visit last time was I think one month, this time it is two months.

Please let me know how to answer this question. Also, if you can think of any other questions for parents who reapply for visitor's visa, please do let me know. Thank you so much for your help.

      Sincerely,
      GKS.

they consider children as an important tie for parents, especially in the Indian culture. So, with only child living in US, this becomes a major reason for denial.
One you cannot do anything about.

If your dad is a working doctor, with good income, he could apply with a purpose related to his profession. Like attending a conference .
with fellow doctors. That way chances of his getting visa are much higher. And with wife in India, they think he will surely return.

If they still want to apply like the first time, he must show a strong income and should show self funding.
Even then it all depends on the officer. two months for a practicing doc is high.

Parents got visa ! (were rejected under 214 (B) in 2012)

          Hello all,

I am very very pleased to inform you all that my parents received 10 years multiple entry visa this time ! They were rejected visa under 214 (B) last time. The visa officer asked following questions:

          1) Why do you want to go to USA?
          2) What does your daughter and son-in-law do?
          3) What is your daughter's and son-in-law's visa status?
          4) Where does your son-in-law work?
          5) What is his annual income?
          6) What is your annual income?
          7) How many children you have?

...And then came the most anticipated words " Congratulations ! Your visa is granted. "

What we did different this time:

          1) First of all, there was 2 year gap between last application and this application
          2) Parents showed self sponsorship
          3) Annual income little more than 10 lacs for my parents
          4) practiced many different interview questions. It is important that parents revise the answers, stick to the point and practice speaking the intended answers.

By God's grace, we got the visa ! Wishing you all the best !

Thanks "Immihelp" for all the help. I really appreciate all your efforts. Great job !

          Sincerely,
          GKS.
