  • Visitor visa for my unmarried sister

    Hi,

I am woking on H1 visa. I am married and have a kid. My husband also working on H1 Visa.
I am planning to invite my elder sister who is unmarried ( 39 yrs old) and working as pharmasist in a small despensary with very less income. She is living with my mom and taking care of her. We have 3 more sisters living in the same place and all of them are married and settled down. I am the only person away from the family.

I applied for her B2 Visa in 2008 when I was working on L1 visa. But it got rejected.

I want to apply B2 Visa again for my sister.

She has a house , 2 plots and very decent amount of deposit in her bank account ( a couple of lakhs)

I have the following questions to increase the chance of getting Visa.

I was told that it will be diff for her to get a visa as she is single and working in the medical field. - is it true ?

    1. Can I mention that she is not working ?
    2. Can I apply for one more sister ( married and have 3 kids . He husband id doing business) along with this sister. So that both of them attend the interview together?
    3. As her income is very low , she doesn't have the tax return filed as its below taxable limit. Will they ask for tax returns?
    4. I am also undergoing a majar surgery next month, can she mention it as a reason?

    Pls help.

    Thanks
    Amutha

Two major reasons; low income and single . You have to correct at least one of them. She must show a good job with a strong income and/or show a settled husband with good income.

Other than that, it is going to be denied again.

Or she can try for a different kind of visa like a work visa ( H-1) to spend some time working in the US. Look for an employer for her who can file an H-1 for her(even part time will do).
Here, her marital status and low income will not be an issue.

Hi, Thank you for your response. As she is not married, there is no option to show her as married. She is earning 11 thousand per month, have own house on her name, plots and decent deposits. Will they not be counted. More over , she is the one living with my mom who is 73 yrs old and taking care of her.

As I am undergoing a major surgery, I would like to have my sister here who can give moral support. Can we give this reason for applying for the Visa? will it be a right reason ?

      Pls help.

By"showing " I meant applying after she got actually married.

See 11k /month is too low. And she is single, and still relatively young.
So, they willl always assume she may not return.

There is no harm in trying again except she will lose $160.
She can try giving the reason for your surgery and showing your documents , she may get lucky with a lenient officer.
If she has lots of property , she can sell some to open a small business and show good financial status.
Which is very important for a visitor visa( sorry , I know it is your personal decision ; just a suggestion).
