  • Research Student in the UK desiring to visit USA on holiday

My daughter, an Indian passport holder and a research student in the UK, desires to visit the USA on 2 week holiday this year. She is scheduled to complete her research sometime in 2016 and her multiple entry UK student visa is valid up to Jan 2017. Her PhD programme is fully funded through a UK studentship grant.
Can she apply for a B2 visa at the US embassy in London?
Her maternal uncle lives in the US and she intends to visit them as well. Would she need any support letter from him?
Is she likely to be granted a visitor visa?
    Thanks

young and single, third country national, all depends on the officer. You have to be clear cut about the primary purpose either tourism or visiting relatives.
If showing the primary purpose as tourism then going alone does not make sense,a plan with a group of friends for a 2 weeks holiday will be a good purpose.

If she is going solely to visit her uncle's family, she can get an invitation letter from him and a copy of his visa and show good money in her account
and source of money(you) and proof of leave cum enrolment in her course.

Strategically, going to visit uncle is a weak purpose as presence of a relative in US can make the application weak.
Tourism with a group of friends ( 2-3) stands a better chance.
