I need more clarification on what the "entity paying for your trip" question means. I will pay for my own passport, visa, food and local transportation but a relative from the US will be buying my plane ticket.

this is a very important question that tells the officer about your financial status indirectly and can shift the decision this way or that way.
Fill one ; either "self" or "host's name" . you cannot split it both ways for your own good.
If you earn well say Rs. 10-12 lacs per year, fill "self" it will go in your favor.
If your income is low and and you will depend on your host for funding, fill host's name and get his financial papers ( I-134 etc)
but , this will become a negative thing for your visa.
By the way, who are you visiting, what is your income and why is the host paying for your trip?
