  • Original birth certificate for sponsoring visitor visa

I want to sponsor my parents visitor visa. They ask for my original birth certificate now a days, which I don't have. I have been trying to communicate with VFS for past 1 week but they are just sending canned answers and not really answering my question.

Can any one please tell me what should I do if I don't have the birth certificate? What kind of alternative proofs they would accept?

I have already read https://www.immihelp.com/birth-certi...ion-and-visas/ and I know that it works very well for green card purposes. But what about sponsoring visitor visa?

Has anyone got any clear answer from VFS or the consulate?

    Thanks in advance.

I am NOT asking about the greencard process.

I am sponsoring my parents for visitors visa and you ask for my birth certificate which I don't have. What would be acceptable proof to you instead of birth certificate?

How can I take the decision myself?

You and consulate are the ones who are asking documents. Please let me know what is acceptable to you. Is copy acceptable?

What if I don't have birth certificate? Is the affidavit and non-availability certificate enough, same thing that people do while filing their own green card if they don't have birth certificate?

    You said it is reccommended.

But is it absolutely required? Is original required? Or copy is fine?

What if I don't have it? Will you accept the affidavit and non-availability certificate?

    Thanks & Regards

J, K, M, and N the applicant is required to pay an Issuance Fee of $50 in

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I am want to sponsor my parents for visitor visa.
I would like to know whether my original birth certificate is required or not. Your website has 2 section,
'Mandatory Documents' and 'Supporting Documents'. And birth certificate is
mentioned in the supporting documents. Therefore, I
don't know whether it is required or not. (Actually,
issuance fee of Rs.2,200 is also mentioned in
Supporting documents. Isn't that required as well?)

Thank you for your help in advance,

I have verified with US consulate in Mumbai and they said that if birth certificate is not available, non-availability certificate and affidavit combination would be sufficient. Details of that already provided at https://www.immihelp.com/birth-certi...ion-and-visas/
