  • How can i get work in the usa as a british citizen?

Can you please advise if I go to the USA on a tourist visa, or visa waiver programme, can I be in the country and apply for jobs? Is it allowed?

If I cannot apply for jobs while on a tourist visa, can you advise what visa I would need as a single British citizen currently living in the UK?

Entering as a B1(business) person on a B1/B2 visa or WB( visa waiver business)
you can apply for jobs and do interviews but you cannot start to work .

Ok, so with this visa I can apply as an individual? and would not need to be connected to a business or have a specific interview arranged? My goal is to work in the USA, and i'm finding applying for jobs while I'm in the UK is not getting me anywhere, so the idea is to be in the USA so I can apply for jobs more effectively and attend interviews.

Yes, you can apply as an individual.

I think you should just enter on your visa waiver and not apply for a B1/B2 visa as that can be denied.

And if visa is denied, you won't be able to use your visa waiver either.

But you must have a purpose to tell the officer at US entry. Mentioning 'applying for jobs" as the purpose can make them think
you are here to work, so you may be denied entry.

Look for some expos/ fairs/seminars related to your field in US. Enter US with a purpose of attending that. You will be stamped
WB( waiver business) . that allows you to apply for jobs and attend interviews.
