Sponsoring Visitor Visa

Dear Friends,

I will be travelling to Michigan in L1 Visa by end of this month. I would like to sponsor Visitor visa for my mom. As part of that, we need to show bank balance statements to prove that we have sufficient fund to support the trip.

1) Please advice what is the least stay period required for me to sponsor my Mom's visa process? (In other words, how soon can i start my mom's visitor visa process).
2) What is the required amount to show in bank balance?

Generally one should spend about a year in US before inviting their parents.
otherwise the officers think there is desperation and the parents are not likely to
return.
