No Leave of absence approval

Hi all,

My uncle is a working Govt. employee and is intending to got to US to visit his son(his sponseror) for 6 months. He will be appearing for B1 visitor visa interview at Chennai consulate on Nov 17th. One query I have is whether for visa application is it mandatory for him to show leave of absence approval certificate(for 6 months) from the Govt. to go to US.

Also his son is having a valid US H1 visa upto Feb 2006 and has applied for another 3 year extension from Feb 2006, which will be approved only in Jan 2006. Is it OK for my uncle to go and appear for B1 visa interview at this time
