Drop box availability for applicants over 79 years of age

Does any one know if applicants over 79 years of age can apply for a visitor visa (to Chennai consulate) through mail/drop box? I ask this because the consulate website says that only applicants between 14 and 79 years need to go through the finger printing process, if given the visa. So, why does any one over 79 years of age need to go personally?

But drop box does not exist any more. Everyone has to go through interview.

I think the drop box still exists. I had to get the name correction on the visa issued to my mom. When I sent an email enquiry. They replied that I need to use the drop box to submit it to the Consulate.

I also read on their website and sounds to me like you can apply for visa through drop box for applicants under 14 and over 79. Why not you email the Consulate and/or TTS/VFS office and check?

I am sorry I forgot to include a sentence there.......that I am not too sure for new first time visas. However the finger printing on the Embassy website says it is for ages between 14 and 79. But it doesn't say if they can use the drop box facility I mean folks less than 14 and more than 79. Thats why I just suggested to contact the Consulate through email or VFS.
