Hi, I am English married to a US citizen since 2002, and have a greed card. My husband retired in 2011 and we moved to France where we now own property. I have children/grandchildren in Europe, and my husband has the same in US. The original plan was to spend 6 months in each country, but we find that we are spending more time in France. I have been advised to surrender my green card. Presently we are in the US for a wedding, and I have an online visa waiver for this trip, intending to give up my GC at the port of entry. The official at passport control said I should surrender it on leaving, and did not activate my visa waiver. Is it possible to surrender my green card (I already have the forms prepared for this) and apply for a 10yr B2 at the same time? Can I come to the US on a B2 for less than 3 months?

Surrendering green card for B2

Please think again.
It will be very hard to get a B2 even if you surrender your Green card.
Which means you will not be able to visit US again.
The reason is
"you have shown immigrant intent in the past by possessing
a green card, so you could do it again in the future ( potential immigrant) ,so no visitor visa for you".
Why don't you go for US citizenship ? Once you have that , you can live in Europe without a need to maintain
residence in the US. And you can visit US anytime.
