  • Please Help! SB-1 visa rejected, visitor visa: they do need to abandon GC before that

My parents have GC. They overstayed, due to health reasons, in Hyd for 2.5 yrs without reentry permit.
Last wk they went for SB-1 visa, Mumbai consulate, got rejected. The officer said their reasons for overstay are not compelling/convincing.

They were asked to go either for Visitor visa or apply for GC (I-130) all over again.

If they choose to go for visitor visa at HYD consulate, do they have to abandon their GC before that??

Any responses to this post is greatly appreciated.

Getting a visitor visa now would be very difficult. Even if they suggested it, in practice they would not grant it . The reason is parents
have shown immigrant intent in the past by getting a green card, so they are POTENTIAL immigrants.

so go for their green card all over again.
