  • Entry stamp >6 months?

My parents have a 10-year multiple entry visa and they have visited us last three years and have always got a 6-month stamp. They have always left before the 6 months were up. This time, however, we would like them to stay for a year since we just had triplets and need the two extra pairs of hands badly. Is it OK to mention these circumstances at the port of entry and request a 1-year stamp right away? Do they even do that? Or is there a possibility they may be rejected outright and we may be better off getting the 6-month stamp and getting an extension later? Appreciate any help.

You can't get more than 6 months stamp at a time.

Don't even ask. You may be deported right away.

    Apply for extension.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. We'll go the extension route.

        Hi!

Best is for them to travel out of teh country and come back. Extensions may pose problems for their next visit.

Well, they need to travel out of North America and come back. They can't go to Canada and come back to get new I-94.

Is it really true that extension could cause a problem for their next visit? Any user experiences? In any case, we may be out of luck and have to get an extension since just two adults (one working) will have a tough time handling newborn triplets and a 2-year old all at the same time..

It does not always cause the problem. It may cause sometimes.

If you really need to extend, go ahead and do that. However, don't invite her immediately back after the extension period is over.
