Affidavit of support I-134

I am sending affidavit of support for my parents. When do they need to submit I-134?..
Because it is their understanding that they have to submit alongwith
DS-156/DS-157, but I understood that they do not need Affidavit of support until the time of interview. I would appreciate if someone can clarify this to me.
I would like them to go ahead and fill DS-156/DS-157 and pay the fees and take an appointment date. Meantime, I would get time to get my paperwork ready here and send them. Thus, I would like to get this clear, so that I can ask them to do it correctly at their end. Or if this is not right, then I would have them wait until I send Affidavit of support from here. Thank you very much.

I have the similar question, what needs to submitted 5 days before the interview date? (only application or supportinin document including original borth certificate?) my interview is in Bombay consulate.

I asked this question to VFS, and as usual, they sent me canned answer. They never reply accurately.

You need to send the photocopies of all the supporting documents 5 days before the interview. That would be documents such as affidavit of support, birth certificate, property documents, employment letter etc.

You need to submit originals for application forms, photo etc.
