Having B1/B2 visa, can I apply for B2 visa for a parent to travel along with me

I have a B1/B2 visa and will be travelling on business for few weeks. I would like my mother to travel along with me (her expenses covered by me) and have applied for her B2 visa. What should be mentioned as the reason of travel to the VO - her accompanying me or tourism ?

Also can I travel ahead of the dates mentioned in my business trip invitation letter, for tourism ?
