  • Sponsoring my mother(widow)

    Hi,
My mom has her visa appt. in dec'05. Its been 4 yrs since i came here after getting married. I have been working for the past 2 yrs. Since I am also working and earning a decent salary, it is better for me sponsor my mother(widow) or is it better for my husband to sposor her. He is in US for the past 8yrs.
I have read that if both are working, its better for the girl to sponsor her mother since the family ties are strong?
Any help is appreciated as i am currently preparing all the docs now. I need to confirm this soon.
    thanks,
    RV.

I think it should not matter much. Plenty of people successfully sponsor their
inlaws. In the end, if YOU have good income to sponsor, go ahead and do it.

But be advised that, she being a widow, showing her ties to home country
(job, business, other children) is much more important an issue.

Filling I 134 form question: Sponsoring my mother

      Thanks for your response.
In the I134 form, If we want to combine both our income and enter in the form, what is the procedure for that. I am going to be the sponsor for my mom. But I read in the instructions that if both husband and wife are working,we can combine and put the income in the form. Any help is appreciated.
      Thanks,
      Revathy.

        You can do either way.

Either make I-134 form, combine the form and attach proof of combined incomes (employment letters from both persons etc.)

Or you can make separate I-134 form and attach proof of individual incomes.

Affidavit of Assurance for my mom

          Thanks for the earlier response.
          I have another question:
Should we need to prepare the affidavit of assurance for my mother in a stamp paper and get it notarized?
or can we print in plain paper and get it notarized?
Also can we include property, bank account, jewellery & fixed deposits all in the same affidavit or should we also take copies of each to show proof.
Thanks in advance for your help.

                Hi!

It is not a must but good to send your husband's passport copy, birth certificate and your marriage certificate.

No such affidavit is required nor have any use. It won't help get the visa.

                        Hi!

Haven't heard of any case where they asked for affidavit of assurnace. My mil, parents did go without it.

Donno why it's included in the list of documents in the website. However if you still need it, it's on the website.
