  • B2 Visa trip expense

I am currently on H4 visa status. I wanted my parents to visit me and my husband here in US so we have filled their application for B2 visa. In DS-160 form for the question who is paying for their trip we have selected "SELF" because indeed they are paying for their tickets and visa fees. When they come to US, since they would be staying with us we will bear expenses for their housing, food and local travels. SO, if they are asked in interview who is paying for their trip? How much expenses do you expect for this visit? What should they answer? I could not find such situation, in most forums they have said that their son/daughter is sponsoring the visit. Also, in one of the answers it is specified that NEVER say "you are partially or wholly going to bear expenses". My father has bank deposits, he gets govt. pension every month, my elder brother helps them with all extra expenses and my father owns the house they are living in Mumbai.
I would greatly appreciate your feedback,Thank you

    Hello, Andy.

I always stay with my sister in USA but i mentioned SELF funding when i applied for the B2 visa. I think it should be ok to say that they will be staying with their daughter in USA when asked about total expenses expected (which i feel they will not be asked as it is very individual, but anyway).

The important thing for the Visa Officer is to ascertain that the visitors will return to their home country and not stay back in USA.

I hope this helps. Personal opinion.

    Cheers,

These are my personal thoughts. I am not a professional.

    Wishing you luck.

Who should be shown as sponsor?

      Hi,

I am on H1B and so is my husband (but his green card process has started). I want to invite my mother to visit me in US. I have lived here for 6 years. My parents are separated (not legally), not divorced (no court case going on) and my mother does not get any financial help from my father. She has 3 children who are supporting her. My brother who is in India, my sister who is in Sweden and me who is in US. She is not working and has no other income. My mother is living with her parents and taking care of them and she and her sister will inherit their parents property (multiples of crores worth) after her parents.
I have about $1000 in my account right now for her ticket money and my husband has about $5000 in savings, so I want to show him as the sponsor. But will the fact that she is his mother in law and not mother make a difference? We both make about $70k per year, but I don't have much money to show in savings.
Who should I show as sponsor- husband or me? Can I show sponsorship papers from both? I read somewhere that I can show a combined income. In the DS-160 form whose name should I write as to who will be paying for the trip? And what aspects do we need to emphasize on to help her get the US visitor visa?

      Thanks for all the help!
