  • Visitor visa for sister

    Hi forum members,

I have a question about applying for visitor's visa for my sister who is unmarried and unemployed.

I have already applied for her B2 visa thrice and with no surprises, all three times it got rejected. The last time I applied for her B2 visa was more than 7 years ago in 2007.

My sister does not want to get married and she is 40. She is also taking care of my mom and has no intentions or qualifications of working either.
I want to call her to US to visit me and my family and also see the country. I have no other wrong intentions. I want to preferably call her with my mother, because she can't travel alone. My mother already has a tourist visa and she has visited me few years ago.

    My questions are:
    1. What are the chances of her visa getting approved this time?
    2. How can I put my case to the consulate?
    3. While filling the I-134 form, should I mention her visiting me alone or with my mother? What would be better?

    Thank you in anticipation.

Will depend upon how she gives her interview

      Techiedkb,

      here are the answers:

      1. The chances of her getting the visa are 50-50 ..first 50 is for not getting the visa since she has already been rejected thrice and the consulate feels that she is a potential immigrant and not just a visitor. Second 50 is cause the last time she applied for was more than 7 years back and therefore they may consider her case.

      2. Unfortunately, there is no way you can put your case up to the consulate besides ds160 and the interview. DS-160 will not help much since the information you enter there most likely hasnt changed much, so it will all depend upon the interview, and therefore i suggest that you get professional guidance as your best chance.

      3. I-134 is a double edged sword.. your support can also mean that she cant support her own travel, Also I-134 is just a document that she will carry with her and most likely they will not even ask her to show any documents.

      hope this helps

      @peace999, immihelp - please guide

Thank you for your response. If asked during the interview, what would be better, if she mentions she is traveling alone or traveling with my mother?

My mother has property in her name. My sister has FDs in her name.

            Separate or together?

I am planning to sponsor my sister for her tourist visa. My question is - since she is unmarried and unemployed, would it be better if she comes alone to visit me instead of with my mother, and thus stating the same during her visa interview? Thank you!

            Please please reply...immihelp, peace999
